• Question: why are mosquitos attracked to the colour blue than more than any other colour

      I like your question. What attracts mosquitoes to certain people has always fascinated me, not because I work on Malaria, but because mosquitoes love biting me!

      Mosquitos, like a lot of flying insects, mainly see blue or dark colours. It’s just they way their eyes work – it’s one of the reasons those bug zapper things are blue. So if you are wearing blue, they can see you, if you were wearing yellow they can’t! There is some debate as to whether blue or black is the most preferred colour.

      There are also other reasons mosquitoes prefer some people over others, these are thought to include body temperature, carbon dioxide production, lactic acid production (from exercising) and moisture. I’m not sure which one of those applies to me 🙂
