I can’t really remember what age I decided to be a scientist, but as long as was thinking about what job I wanted to do it was always a science based job. Certainly when I chose my A-levels I’d made the decision I was doing science at university and hopefully beyond, as I only chose science A-levels.
I’ve a couple of similar question so I’m pasting the link to those.
I guess it wasn’t really one of those Eureka! moments – in yr 9 I went for science subjects and when choosing A levels it was science and maths. By the time I had to choose A levels science was the most interesting thing. But I had to give up Art and Geography which was a shame…
Hmmm, I am trying to remember when I decided I wanted to be a professional scientist. When I was in school I didn’t know what I wanted to be. Actually I got my best grade in the Leaving Cert. (like A-levels but this is what it is called in Ireland) in English but I enjoyed science the most (especially physics) so I thought I would do something I enjoy, while in University. If I did something I didn’t like, or something just to “get a good job” I would not like it and I’d be bored all the time and I probably would hate getting up in the morning. So I thought I would do science. In university I realised that I loved doing science and that I would stick with it and do it as a job – and that is what I did and I don’t regret for a second.
I would say that I’ve been interested in science since I was just 3 or 4 years old! Though you could say I only decided to become a professional scientist (that is, working as a scientist for a job) just a couple of years ago.
