I’ve been a scientist for just a very short while, i guess i am a newbie… but always learning and finding new things out! Thats why I love science and the work i do.
Well I’m not sure when you officially start being a scientist ….
I said in this answer http://ias.im/44.214 that I think that everyone is born as kind of a scientist but maybe you mean more formally than that. I did Physics & Astronomy in University and I felt like a trainee scientist then. Then after that I did a Masters and PhD where I felt like a proper scientist. Oh ya and it was at the beginning of my masters that I got paid for doing it! So if that is what you want to know then it has been 4.5 years 😀
I finished my PhD 9 years ago, but I felt like a scientist while I was doing my PhD even though it was still training, so I guess 12 and a half years. Wow that seems like a long time – it doesn’t feel that long. I still like working in science 🙂
I think I was a scientist since I was just 3 or 4 years old and picked up my first book about dinosaurs! Being a scientist is more a way of thinking than the job you do but I do really enjoy my work as it gives me a chance to get other people interested in science too! Maybe one day a 3 or 4 year old will look at something I’ve invented and decide they want to be a scientist too!
