This is a great question and of course one everybody has thought about – I’ve done so quite a bit.

In my opinion there is no evidence for the existence of god. Personally, I don’t believe things I’m told simply because I have been told them. I need to see evidence! Especially if the story is far-fetched (people doing magic, rising from the dead, performing miracles, afterlife etc.). As an example if I said I could fly you would not just believe me would you? You’d probably ask for a demonstration. If I refused and said I could fly but only when nobody’s watching and that you just had to “have faith” then why would you believe me? There would be no evidence at all.

On a separate note I am not a fan of religion (which is different to the issue of god) as many of them actively encourage people not to question things! In my opinion you should always be curious, you should always ask questions and I hate phrases like “curiosity killed the cat”. It didn’t – the curious cats are the ones most likely to find the cream! Sometimes the people who shout down your questions are just too afraid of their true answer which is “I don’t know”. And for me (is it the same for you?) if you don’t know something you should ask questions to see if you can find out!

      🙂
