• Question: What is the worst lad accident that has happened to you?

      I guess you mean lab accident. I’m lucky – I have not had any lab accidents *touch woodMATOMO_URL Once I remember though, a student in a lab I was supervising broke a mercury thermometer and had mercury on their hands and almost put their hands in their mouth before I made them wash it off!! That was a close call!

      In a lab I was working in someone has poured a lot of old chemicals down the sink. On their own there was nothing dangerous about the chemicals and so my colleague thought nothing of it. Shortly afterwards I walked by and started coughing, my lungs were burning and I could breathe. Turns out that particular mix of chemicals releases chlorine gas and I had breathed that gas in. It was very painful, I felt very ill for the rest of the day and was feeling pretty bad for a few days afterwards.

      We were testing one of the submarines in a swimming pool and it was moving too fast to stop before hitting one of the sides, so I jumped in front of it to stop it damaging the pool or breaking! I didn’t get very hurt but I still have a 10cm scar on my leg!
