• Question: what pressures can your submarines withstand?

      The submarines I work with are robotic without people inside, this means there’s almost no limit to the pressures they can withstand!

      The human powered submarines in our lab are actually filled with water then the person driving the sub has scuba diving equipment. This means they can’t go any deeper than a normal scuba diver. Normally these subs only go 4 or 5 meters down and we wouldn’t want to go any deeper than 10 – 15 meters – that’s about 2.5 times atmospheric pressure.
